Thinking about a real estate career, or looking for a team that builds agents up? Here is how licensing works in Texas, and what it looks like to grow with us.

Build a career here, with people in your corner

Wisdom House Realty Group started with a simple idea from Proverbs 24:3-4: "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established."

We try to run our team the same way. We want agents who care about people first, who do the work honestly and who want to keep learning. Whether you are brand new or already licensed and ready for a change, we would love to talk with you.

What you get on our team

  • Mentorship from day one. Matt and Liana co-lead the team and work alongside you on your first deals, from the first showing to closing day.
  • Contract and transaction help. Matt is a Broker Associate who oversees contracts, negotiations and transaction paperwork for the team.
  • Marketing that looks good. Liana leads our marketing, branding and content, so your listings and social posts look professional.
  • A local audience. Moving to Bastrop TX, our Facebook group and The Bastrop Podcast help people get to know you before they ever call.
  • A national brokerage. Our team is brokered by Epique Realty, with its training, tools and agent community behind you.
  • A faith-friendly culture. We are open about our faith, and we serve everyone. Every client gets the same honest, fair treatment.

How to get your real estate license in Texas

The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) licenses real estate agents in Texas. Here are the steps for a sales agent license, the license most new agents start with.

  1. Check that you qualify. You must be at least 18, a US citizen or lawfully admitted alien, and meet TREC's standards for honesty, trustworthiness and integrity. If you have something in your background you are unsure about, you can ask TREC for a Fitness Determination before you start.
  2. Finish 180 hours of pre-license courses. There are six 30-hour courses: Principles of Real Estate I, Principles of Real Estate II, Law of Agency, Law of Contracts, Promulgated Contract Forms, and Real Estate Finance. Many schools offer them online and self-paced.
  3. Apply through TREC's online portal. Once your courses are done, submit the sales agent application and fee. Your application stays open for one year from the date you file.
  4. Get fingerprinted. TREC requires fingerprints on file with the Texas Department of Public Safety for a background check. You will get an email telling you how to schedule.
  5. Pass the exam. Pearson VUE gives the exam, which has a national section and a state section. You need to pass both before your application expires.
  6. Choose a sponsoring broker. TREC first issues an inactive license. It becomes active when a broker sponsors you, and then you can start helping clients. This is where joining a team comes in.
  7. Keep learning after you are licensed. Before your first renewal you will complete 90 more hours of post-license courses (270 total), plus Legal Update I and II. After that, you take 18 hours of continuing education every two years.

Fees, rules and course requirements can change. Check the official TREC sales agent page for current details before you enroll.

Common questions

How long does it take to get a real estate license in Texas?

It depends on how fast you finish the 180 hours of required courses. Self-paced online courses let motivated students move quickly. Your license application stays open for one year from the date you file it.

No. The Texas Real Estate Commission requires you to be at least 18, a US citizen or lawfully admitted alien, meet its honesty and integrity standards, finish 180 hours of qualifying real estate courses and pass the state and national exam.

Can I join the team before I am licensed?

Yes, please reach out early. We are glad to talk through schools, study plans and what your first year could look like before you ever take the exam.
